Council proposes major accessibility initiative

Wyndham City Council are developing The Wyndham Accessibility Action Plan for people with disability, under the Council’s proposed 2018/19 Integrated Plan and Budget.

The plan will help guide how Council can help improve access to services, and Wyndham City’s Family Friendly City portfolio holder, Cr Mia Shaw, says council is seeking from people with disability to help guide the development of the action plan.

The Wyndham Accessibility Action Plan will focus on improving equitable access to council’s services, information and facilities, as well as increasing participation in community hubs, libraries and events.

For example, the Tarneit Community Learning Centre and the Integrated Family Centre and Aboriginal Community Centre in Wyndham Vale will include adult-sized change tables and hoists in the change facilities.

The inclusion of these facilities means that people with severe disabilities can spend the full day out in their community with the dignity and support they need.
